EGEE
Reporting: First Period
|
|
| |
The
EGEE project has just completed its first period. The first
nine-months of the project have witnessed advancements,
taken on new tasks and faced multiple challenges. To keep
track of the complex project activity, EGEE sums up the
above developments in various reports to the EU, which have
proven vital to work towards a successful EU Review. The
outcome of this event depends on the quality content of
both reports and deliverables. The deliverables and milestones
describe the completion or process of various tasks that
the project activities have been entrusted with. In total,
35 deliverables have been submitted by EGEE to the EU and
27 milestones have been reached. An important achievement
leads the outstanding track record of milestones: Already
at nine months into the project, it has already achieved
its two year target of having five science disciplines (chemistry,
astronomy, physics, earth science, biomedical) making use
of the infrastructure.
EGEE management would like to take
this opportunity to thank all of the authors, reviewers
and moderators for the effort in getting all deliverables
in shape just in time for the EU Review, scheduled for February
9-11. The review will be attended by 90 key participants
from EGEE, and assessed by five independent EU-appointed
reviewers. A series of presentations and demos is under
intensive preparation to ensure the project passes this
review with flying colours. Full details are found on http://egee- intranet.web.cern.ch/egee/intranet/EU_Review/index.html.

Operations:
100 sites, 10,000 CPU |
|
| |
The mark has been set. The Operations Activity of the EGEE
project has successfully linked additional resources into
the production service, reaching hereby 110 sites on the
EGEE -LCG infrastructure. With the new sites, the infrastructure
now enables over 10,000 CPUs. Thus, the infrastructure links
already half of the total number envisioned for the end
of the project, with still 14 months to go. With successful
proof of concept tests of interoperation between GRID3 and
EGEE-LCG sites this number might soon grow. In just one
day 12 sites from the Italian GridIT project have been linked
with the EGEE-LCG production services, showing the advantages
of grid federations
