The EGEE (Enabling Grids for E-sciencE) project provides the world’s largest production grid infrastructure for applications. The EGEE infrastructure is the home for an increasing number of diverse user communities for whom it provides both infrastructure services and a range of user support services. EGEE considers the User Forum one of the strategic events of the entire project and a key moment to relate with other initiatives and communities.

The second User Forum (*) will be co-located with the OGF20 meeting in May in Manchester, UK. OGF20 (Open Grid Forum) meeting will be held in May 7th-9th and the EGEE User Forum will be held in Manchester May 9th -11th. This combined event will further strengthen the links between EGEE and the Open Grid Forum, bringing users and standards bodies together to ensure that the future of the Grid is complemented by the establishment of key standards.

If you are planning to attend OGF20 and/or the EGEE User Forum, please take note of these EGEE training events which will be held immediately after the OGF20/EGEE User Forum events. Both courses are to be held, free of charge, at the Manchester University.

EGEE continues to foster the pioneering usage of its infrastructure by encouraging collaboration between diverse scientific disciplines. The vision is to evolve and to expand the services offered to the EGEE user community, maximising the scientific, technological and economical relevance of grid-based activities.

The User Forum hallmark is the ample space devoted to discussions between users and the service providers, and the  interactive demonstration of the status of prototypes and of the applications already in production status. As in the first User Forum, the event will foster proper dialogue outside the scientific communities, exploring possibility for cooperation between academic users and business partners.

The EGEE User Forum provides an important opportunity for innovative applications to establish contacts with EGEE and with other user communities, to plan for the future usage of the EGEE grid infrastructure, to learn about the latest technological advances, and to discuss the future evolution in the grid middleware.

As for the first User Forum, we invite abstracts to be submitted via the event web site for presentations, live demonstrations and posters. The Call for Abstracts will open on December the 1st 2006. The main areas of interest will cover key topics in Grid technology such as experience and evolution of data access issues, interactive usage of the Grid and support and usage of complex workflows.

(*) The first EGEE User Forum was held at CERN March 1st-3rd 2006. It provided a special opportunity for  the user communities to interact both with the EGEE project and amongst themselves. The event attracted some 250 attendees and 90 technical contributions in the forms of demos, posters and oral contributions.
