Mandate: The WN Resources working group is investigating the
efficient utilisation of WN resources. Initially this concerns hard limits
on WNs such as available memory and disk-space for any particular job.
It is clear that within EGEE that jobs are submitted with different
requirements for memory and diskspace and it is important that suitable
resources be found. For sites it is also important that they are able to
allocate jobs to suitable nodes so as to improve the efficiency of their
resources. We make the assumption here that with existing batch farms on the
EGEE grid there are heterogeneous resources.
Items that must be considered in the first instance:
Requirements on WNs for end user jobs.
Information publishing of heterogeneous resources and
subsequent matchmaking.
Submission of jobs to optimal resources within a batch farm.
Influence of Pilot Jobs.
The output documents should include:
Recommendations for users requiring particular WN resources.
Recommendations to operations and deployment using existing middleware.
Recommendations to middleware developers where short falls are discovered that make utilisation of WNs difficult or
impossible.
Recommendations for sites wishing to support jobs with WN requirements.
