Mandate:
The general objectives of the Short Jobs (SJ) working group is to address
the problem of short jobs. We consider jobs of a few minutes computation
times, where the QoS requirement is mainly latency. The issues are: to
provide QOS guarantees for SJ, while the current scheduling allows only for
best effort; and to limit the grid submission and scheduling overhead. The
mandate of this group is to analyze the application needs for short jobs, to
explore the tradeoffs between application requirements and minimal evolution
of existing software and services, and finally to propose corresponding
technical solutions.
